Like previous editions of this book, the 9^th edition of Therapeutic Recreation Processes and Techniques: Evidence-Based Recreational Therapy continues to focus on the actual provision of recreational therapy services. A prime feature of the book is that it provides empirical evidence and theory to inform the practice of recreational therapy, as well covering detailed information on basic helping skills required for the delivery of RT services. Thus, the new edition offers a theory-based, evidence-based approach to RT practice that is client-centered and strength-based. Updated and expanded material is provided on critical areas of knowledge for recreational therapists including the recreational therapy process, developing individualized intervention plans, conceptual models for practice, theories and therapies used in recreational therapy, being a helping professional, group leadership skills, specific RT leadership tasks and concerns, therapeutic communication, clinical supervision, and psychotropic drugs and assistive devices. Other chapters are on facilitation techniques and evidence-based practice. The chapter on facilitation techniques contains the latest facilitation techniques and offers perhaps the most complete information available in the RT literature on research to support each facilitation technique. Also, a new chapter on evidence-based practice (EBP) has been added that explains why recreational therapists must engage in EBP and provides a step-by-step procedure for conducting EBP.
